US company Leatherman® Tool Group, Inc. was founded in 1983 in Portland, Oregon. It was founded by Timothy S. Leatherman (who studied mechanical engineering on Oregon State University) with his friend Steve Berliner. In the beginning they focused mainly on development of multi-tool called Pocket Survival,so they could gradually started to produce other tools including knives as well as accessories.
