We are living in times, when walking the night streets is not really safe. We can be safe for hundred times but the hundred one can be crucial. Unfortunately, given the opinion of our politics on firearms and their use, we can not effectively defend ourselves. We need to resort to less drastic types of defense,that are more safe for the perpetrators, but all the more dangerous for us. Instead of being able to solve the crisis situation from five meters, we have to run away, be robbed or try it from the close distance (when there is no other option). But how to do it from close distance when we don´t do martial arts or we are not ready.
The answer has batteries
There are many answers to the question how to defend in our country. One of them is a stun-gun (aka electroschock weapon). The biggest advantage is (in the sense of self-defence) that it is legal. It is approved by our law as a means of self-defence, which entitles us to actively use it. But what is it ? Imagine box with batteries, that utilize electric shock. This shock is sufficient enough to either run away or otherwise evaluate the situation. It is a little magic and as with every magic, we wants to know, how it works.

Let's imagine we're going down the sidewalk and suddenly from behind the corner someone pulls us and wants to rob us. I am no ninja and even if I was, the pottentional harmful attack can make offender from us. Therefore, we would rather reach for stun-gun. Just take it out of the pocket and touch the attacker´s body. Hang on, what if the attacker is wearing a leather jacket? It does not matter, the discharge is powerful enough to get through several layers of clothing. When pressing the button and attaching the contact surfaces to the offender, a relatively small voltage in the batteries becomes a huge voltage on the contact electrodes. It is due to the amplifying circuit, which charges condenser over the oscillator. It is discharged straight to the attacker tissue. The duration of the electric impulse also determines the consequences. It should not be more than 6 seconds. The short one causes shock, longer one (around two seconds) muscle spasms and shock, but the offender remains mobile. The most effective is full one - 5 seconds. The perpetrator is disarmed for a few minutes, the muscle spasm clasps his body and we can escape.
Every cloud has a silver lining
This self-defence option is highly-effective. But what about when the offender is holding me, do I get shock too ? No, luckily it does not work like that. The circuit is closed and secured to protect us. However, there is one small disadvantage. You have to be very close to the offender, which is considered to be big disadvantage of otherwise great means of self-defence. There are also long range electronic shock weapons, but they are not allowed in the Czech Republic. To buy a stun-gun, we need to be over 18 - years old.
So which one ?
Stun- guns differ by brand, by way of making and also by voltage. Voltage determinates efficiency as well as price. But what is the value of our life? Let´s choose so that the stun-gun fits our every day carry bag and so we can easily handle it.
