Even for our outdoor activities and hobbies we need good equipment. But what about people who save lives? They need the best equipment. And it is not otherwise in the case of firefighters who face dangerous situations on daily basis. One of the required equipment are also special lights for firefighters that will be used everyday as well. How should such flashlight look like and what we can expect from it ?
Uncompromising
These types of lamps boast an uncompromising construction that will not disappoint in any respect. Absolute reliability is required. It is unimaginable for the flashlight to stop working during firefighters intervention. It must always be charged and ready for the action. How do we do that ? Do we carry batteries with us ? We will explain everything in this article. We should also pay attention to overall structure as well dimensions and other features. But enough of this and let´s be more specific.
Which one ?
There are different types of firefighters lights. We can see handheld flashlights of different sizes but also headlamps, which allow for both hands to be free. Each of them is better for different situations. Handheld flashlights are more suitable for orientation in the building, when we need to illuminate the space. The large types can offer great beam intensity. However, thanks to their construction, they are also quite heavy. Their features will be mostly appreciated while searching houses, forests and rubble. For firefighters, the size is not as important. However, we should pay attention to weight. The weight depends on the size of the battery and the material from which the flashlight is made. The use of aluminum is completely speculative. The reflective parts are still made from this material to maintain durability and heat dissipation, while polymer is usually used for the body. This plastic, however, must of a high-quality which we can tell by the standards. This leads us to another topic...
Crash, boom, bang !
Firefighters lamps must be certified for use in an explosive environment. Above all, they must be well insulated and do not release much heat. These two factors could cause an explosion in certain environments. Another required features are impact resistance and water resistance. These features are simply must for proper flashlight.
Always ready
Such flashlights do not need to have exceptional light output. 150 lumens is usually good enough. Lighting modes are much more important. It is not always good to shine max light. We can dazzle ourselves or the battery can be discharged faster. But how do we keep them constanly charged ? Quite simply - these rechargeable lamps come with special charging station. In other words, they are constantly recharging and after intervention they are put back there to be fully recharged again.
