Schuberth has been in business for over 100 years, most of that time producing head protection for a variety of purposes, from military to police to biker gear. And it still works at its home in Germany.

Today, the German manufacturer Schuberth is practically synonymous with helmets of various categories. We are specifically interested in police and military helmets. How did the company get to this portfolio?

Rich history

More than 100 years ago, specifically in 1922, the long journey of the Schuberth company began with completely different products. Specifically, beer crates. In 1929, it patented the inner padding for a military helmet, thus beginning its next and more famous era.

In 1952, Schuberth expanded its range with the first industrial-grade safety helmets, specifically for mine workers, and further with steel helmet padding for border guards and members of the police in general. Two years later, it successfully ventured into motorcycle helmets, with the first Aero model becoming iconic. The 1976 Integral model weighed just over a kilogram and was the first ever full-face motorcycle helmet made from composite materials. As early as the 1950s, the company began supplying helmets to the German armed forces, and in 1968 the first thermoplastic police helmet shell came onto the market.

Next development

After the turn of the millennium, the cooperation with Michael Schumacher in 2001 or with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2015 is still worth mentioning, however, other events are more important for us, namely the roughly five-year move of the headquarters from Brunswick to Magdeburg (2004 to 2008 ) or the establishment of the distribution company Schuberth North America for the North American region. Or the acquisition of the Italian textile and carbon fiber products company Teca25 in 2014.

Schuberth today

The Schuberth factory in Magdeburg currently employs more than 370 people. Thanks to its own laboratories, including acoustic test rooms or wind tunnels, this producer can afford in-house development so that its helmets are perfect in every detail.

For our purposes, police and military helmets are naturally the most important, but Schuberth also has in its portfolio the aforementioned motorcycle helmets, helmets for car racers and models for firefighters and workers in industries where the use of safety features is required. And the development continues…
